Bluebell Class Teacher: Mrs Champion

Reception LSAs are Mrs Jarman, Mrs Kovacs and Mrs Pynn

In Reception, we love learning through play and exploring new activities through exciting new topics.  We have two indoor classrooms and a large outdoor classroom where the children love to play in our mud kitchen, sandpit, construction and role play areas. We love getting messy and having lots of fun!  We spend some time in our class groups and the rest of our time mixing together as a year group and making decisions about which area to visit.  Each classroom is based around an area of learning.

Bluebell Class is the science, investigation and creative room and we do lots of imaginative play, art work and exploration. We have our very own role play area which reflects our topics and enables us to use new topic-base vocabulary in our play. We also have an art area where the children love to design and make their own creations using a variety of materials and resources. The children also love to use the woodwork bench and they show a fantastic understanding of how to use the tools safely and effectively. In our investigation area, the children will find exciting activities to sort, solve and explore and they love wearing our special goggles to complete their experiments and science work.

Sunflower Class  is the maths based room where we do lots of counting, sorting and shape work.  Children can use their building skills to create their very own masterpieces using our construction equipment.  We love to explore shape and measure in our play too and we create some fantastic shape models and pictures.

Communication, language and  literacy is embedded across all areas of the reception unit, with dedicated book corners in both classrooms, book benches outside and plenty of writing and mark making opportunities in all of the reception areas. Both classrooms also have a dedicated phonics and talk for writing area for the children to practise their reading, writing and storytelling and this is reinforced during out literacy and phonic carpet sessions.
